Ride Report - Wongan Hills 24th Nov 2019
Ride Report – Wongan Hills 24th November 2019By Chris CobainFour members and one visitor set off (Chris (RL) Jeff (P), Steve (VP), Evan (Visitor) and Chris (TEC) from the usual start point in Midvale on a warm and fine Sunday morning along a picturesque route via the rollercoaster and O’Briens Road to Brocky’s memorial for a quick break. Next stop was Bakers Hill pie shop via Berry, Bailup, Burma, Hawke and Coates Road. Inside fresh pastries (and a pineapple pizza) were enjoyed, a chat with other riders before we set off to Toodyay via the twisty Clackline – Toodyay road. A quick fuel top off for some before heading to Goomalling along the Toodyay-Goomalling Road, arriving 30 mins ahead of schedule to find the Hotel closed - a good thing as morning tea was still settling so we decided to ride on after a short break. We caught two green lights at minimal roadwork locations along the Goomalling – Wyalkatchem Road, was amusing to see traffic lights out there before the ritual visit to Rusty the Tin Dog for a few photos. A nice leisurely cruise along the Dowerin – Meckering road taking in the salt lakes, earthquake fault lines and high wheat field country views before arriving into Meckering at 1.30pm for some refreshment at Colton’s café. A shaded area to park up then into the café for the delicious food and browse nice home-made products offered for sale. Thoroughly recommend this place for a cool rest, real home-made food served by a motorcycle friendly host. If you enjoy stacked pancakes, this is the place and the soup is always good. Leaving Meckering we cruised along the little known and ridden short cut to York along Quellington Road, with the Fazer disturbing the native birds and quiet farmhouses before arriving into York. No stop was needed before taking the curvy Knotts, Talbot and West Talbot Roads to arrive at The Lakes Roadhouse at 3.30pm to end the 350 km cruise. A few of us headed to the Kalamunda Hotel via Mundaring Weir Road for a cold one and a chat before heading home. A great day out on the roads with little traffic and hold ups, the Wongan Hills ride that never made it to Wongan Hills…well almost. Thanks to all who attended and shared the ride day. See you out there!
