"Coffee & Doughnuts Ride" - AKA "Vulnerable Road Users Ride"
The MRAWA "Coffee & Doughnuts Ride" (AKA "Vulnerable Road Users Ride") started off from the Caltex, Midvale, on a nice sunny morning with 17 enthusiastic riders, with a good number being new & learner riders. At least they were enthusiastic until I mentioned, during the pre-ride briefing, that a couple of the roads we were taking had been recently re-sealed with loose stone still present (methinks the downhill stretch on O'Brien rd. was the cause of the apprehension) but it all turned out fine. With Crispy taking up the Tail-End Charlie posi, we started with a short run on the Great Eastern highway, then up thru Parkerville, Stoneville, Mount Helena & into Gidge. Traffic was nice & light as we made our way onto Reserve, Berry, & Clenton roads, with a short stop at the Peter Brock Memorial.Taking it easy down the recently chip-sealed O'Brien road, we stopped momentarily after the single lane bridge, over Wooroloo Brook, to re-group & ensure nobody had a spill - all good & accounted for! Onto the Lancewood "roller coaster" & down the escarpment through Brigadoon & Baskerville had us waiting to enter the Great Northern highway (note to self: try a different road as getting more than 2 M/C's at a time onto this road is a challenge).Down West Swan road, & with a nod to the historic Caversham Motor Racing Circuit to our right, we made it to the western shelter of Mussell Pool where Dave W. & Steve F. were awaiting our arrival with bevvies & food (okay, coffee, tea, water, & doughnuts), brochures on safe riding, & a short speech by Dave on National Road Safety Week.A good ride was had by all, & it was great to see the newer riders enjoying themselves. Thanks to all who attended.Keep the shiny side up!
