April 2014

Hi Guys I hope you are all enjoying the cooler weather and getting out on some bike runs. Our AGM is coming up and will be held on 16th July 2014. You will find nomination forms and proxy voting forms in this issue of the Edge. I would urge you to consider standing for a position on the MRAWA Committee so we can continue working for all motorcyclists’ safety and rights. Some of the committee have been working for many years for you and as the saying goes many hands make light work, so if you can help out your MRA it will make a great deal of difference to the work we can do. On a personal note I have been the President and Road Safety/Political Officer for quite a few years now and believe that we need a new person for these positions with fresh ideas to bring new energy and direction to our association, please consider and contact me if you need any more information.Last weekend we attended the York Motorcycle Festival and I would like to thank the volunteers who worked so tirelessly on our stall and directing the motorcycle parking for half the day in very hot conditions. Well done and our thanks go to Roger Jutte, Joanne Wells, Ray Fitall, Colin Hewitt, Bob Green and Glen White. Our focus on this year’s festival was to promote the upcoming Numbat Rally as well as our usual safety messages and I believe it was very successful not only for us but for all who attended the festival. There were many more activities this year and this event seems to improve and attract more riders and general public to it each time it is held.It is getting that time again to start to plan for the 2014 Numbat Rally. This year it will be held on the Western Australia Day long weekend (used to be Foundation Day) Saturday May 31st – June 2nd We organised a busy bee on the weekend of March 15th – 16th and had a great couple of days out on the farm collecting fire wood during the day and sitting around the camp fire whilst enjoying a couple of drinks and some great stories, thanks to all who helped. Our next and final busy bee before the rally is on May 17th – 18th some of the gear you will need is gloves and chain saw if you can get hold of one but it is not a necessity and if you have a Ute or trailer that would be useful. If you want to join us for the overnighter at the rally site you will need all the usual camping gear plus bring you own food and drink. These are always a heap of fun and I am sure this will be no different. We do of course need volunteers during the rally to run the registrations, move gear around the site, run the shop and flog raffle tickets. If you can help please contact us so we can all have breaks and enjoy our own rallyThat’s about all from me for this issue, so ride carefully, ride well and ride often. I hope to see you out on the road soon.Dave Wright
